This blank membership card for the Aero Club of Nebraska, left, features illustrations of a Baldwin airship and a Wright A biplane. Although the Archives only has this one example, this must have been a stock cover design for Hanriot-the contents of the brochure advertise the Hanriot Type H.46 Styx, a high-wing singleengine monoplane designed for liaison work. The whimsical cover of this late 1920s brochure from French aircraft manufacturer Hanriot features an illustration by Benjamin Rabier of a Hanriot HD 1 biplane soaring over impossibly pointy peaks as a member of the local mountain goat population watches in admiration. Now all I need to find is a ticket, a program, and a time machine, and I’m ready to go… I was immediately transported to a lunch counter in Chicago on a hot summer afternoon, enjoying a treat while thinking about the thrill of heading out to the airfield to see the action. In one of our air racing collections, for example, I found a bright red slip of paper advertising a “Pilot’s Delight Sundae” as a promotion for the 1930 National Air Races: For 25 cents, you could get crushed strawberry and pineapple, a chocolate cookie, and two flavors of ice cream. These items bring the past alive in a more intimate way than do the more formal reports and records. But the Archives is also home to ephemera-banquet menus, airline baggage labels, company brochures-that tell another kind of aviation and spaceflight history. Within the 20,000 cubic feet of archival materials at the National Air and Space Museum Archives are personal and professional papers, corporate and organizational records, 20,000 motion pictures, two million technical drawings, and three million photographic images. Most people hang on to bits of paper that they didn’t mean to save forever: a ticket stub from a concert, a greeting card, a tour brochure. Slipped between the pages of diaries and journals, glued into scrapbooks, and stuffed into envelopes, we’ve found things that were never meant to last.

This form is a little different it is laid out with additional sections specific to 2-4 unit properties. The 1025 form is a little different than the previous ones, but I included it in the residential forms section because it is used for what is still considered a residential property. Many of the fields are similar to the single-family and condo forms, but many are specific to manufactured homes. The 1004C form is for manufactured homes. Like the 10 forms, the 1004C is also for residential properties but of a different sort. Typically they are used when a full inspection is required. The following two forms can be used for either an interior or exterior inspection. It has many of the same fields as the 1073 form, but some related to interior characteristics are removed. The 1075 appraisal form is similar to the 1073 form for individual condo units, but like the 2055 above, it is for exterior-only inspections. 1075 – Exterior-Only Individual Condominium The exterior only single-family form is typically used when the loan to value is low or access to the interior of the property is not possible. The 2055 form is an exterior-only form for single-family homes and is only used when requested by the client. 2055 – Exterior-Only Single-Family Residential These are however both still considered appraisal forms for conventional loans on residential properties. The following two forms are for when the property is only inspected from the exterior, called an “Exterior Only” appraisal. The forms above are always used if when an interior inspection of the property is required. This form has many of the same fields, but many are condo-specific. It differs in that it is used to appraise condominiums instead of single-family properties. The 1073 is similar to the 1004 form in that it was developed for conventional lending purposes. This form is used to produce an individual condominium unit appraisal report. The 1073 form is probably the second most commonly used real estate appraisal form for residential properties. Here is a sample of a Form 1004 appraisal. This is the detached single-family residential form, as well as the townhouse appraisal form. It is typically used when a lender is ordering an appraisal for a refinance or purchase transaction. The 1004 is used when an appraiser is required to do an interior and exterior inspection. That is because it is the form for single-family residential properties. The 1004 appraisal form is probably the most common and widely used appraisal form for residential appraisers. Interior and Exterior Inspection Forms 1004 – Single-Family Residential Properties that are considered residential properties include: single-family homes, condominiums, mobile homes, and 2-4 unit properties.įannie Mae and Freddie Mac developed the following six forms in 2005. Residential forms are used for residential properties, and commercial forms are used for commercial properties. Inspection by Third Party (Not Appraiser)Īppraisal forms can be divided into a few categories, but the main two are residential and commercial forms. The following forms are the real estate appraisal forms most commonly used by real estate appraisers. The following is a list of the different types of appraisal forms that we appraisers typically use. When it comes to appraisal forms, there are a lot of them because each serves a specific purpose. Real estate appraisals can be done in a variety of ways, from forms to written narrative reports to even verbal communication of a value. 1004 Desktop/70D – Single-Family Desktop.1004D – Appraisal Update or Completion Report.1075 – Exterior-Only Individual Condominium.2055 – Exterior-Only Single-Family Residential. Remember, because pixels are the smallest measurable unit in an image, you cannot use only part of a pixel! If you are going to color in a pixel, you must color the entire pixel. For example, you may want to have blank pixels in between the legs of a character. The character does not have to take up all 1024 pixels you can leave pixels blank if you want. Each pixel can only contain a single color.Add as much detail as possible to your character. You can draw something from your own imagination, or try to copy an existing character. With colored pencils, crayons, or markers, draw a character inside the 32-by-32 pixels box. This will be the space where you draw your high-resolution character. There will be a total of 1024 pixels within the box you drew. Each small square on the graph paper will represent a single pixel.Using a ruler and a pen or pencil, draw a box on the first piece of graph paper (the one with more squares) that is 32 pixels wide and 32 pixels high. Again, you can leave all the other settings as they are. This paper has larger squares (pixels) and will be for your low-resolution (8-by-8 pixels) drawing. For the second piece of graph paper, set the "Grid Spacing" to 0.5 lines per cm.You can leave all the other settings as they are. This paper will be for your high-resolution (32-by-32 pixels) drawing. For the first piece of graph paper, set the "Grid Spacing" to 2 lines per cm.Using the computer, print out two sheets of graph paper for your project from In both cases, the size of the character will remain the same. In this experiment you will draw the same character at two different resolutions: 32-by-32 pixels, and 8-by-8 pixels. Are video game characters today higher or lower resolutions than video game characters in the 1980's?.What is the relationship between pixels and resolution?.What are the words that are combined to mean pixel? ( Hint: Split the word into the sounds "pix" and "el".) The word pixel is a portmanteau (port-man-toh), which means a blend of sounds from two or more words.Sharpen those pencils and get your drawing arm ready! Terms and Concepts How does this combination of more and smaller pixels change the level of detail possible in today's video game art? You can discover the answer in this science fair project by making high- and low-resolution drawings of your own characters. You can see this in Figure 2, where the two Marios are the same height, but the Wii Mario's height is made up of four times as many pixels. This means that more pixels can fit in the same amount of space. In addition to increasing the total number of pixels, modern video games also use smaller pixels. The 2007 Mario is at a much higher resolution. On the left is the 1985 Mario from the original Super Mario Brothers game on the NES and on the right is the 2007 Mario from Super Paper Mario on the Nintendo Wii. But if you zoom in on one area of the house, like in the boxed-in section, you can see that the picture is made up of individual squares of color-these are the pixels.įigure 2. When you look at the whole image you see a picture of a house. To make a picture, each pixel is filled in with a single color, and many pixels are placed next to one another to form an image. If you were able to magnify your TV screen or computer monitor many times, you'd see that the entire screen is arranged with thousands of small dots or squares, like a piece of graph paper. Pixels are the smallest unit of data in a picture. This means that the art in video games today can use more pixels than it did in the 1980's. There have been many advances in the technology from the early days of video games to today's games, including the ability to store and display more data (information) on the screen. But why? What has changed between then and now? By comparison, today's characters are much more detailed. Have you ever seen an old computer, video, or arcade game and thought "Those characters look terrible! They are really blocky, and I can barely figure out what they are supposed to be!"? It is true that video game art has come a long way from what it looked like in the 1980's. In 1977, Raymond borrowed $40,000 from family and $40,000 from a bank to establish Victoria's Secret: a store in which men could feel comfortable buying lingerie. Considered niche products, lingerie items (such as lacy thongs and padded push-up bras) were only found in specialty shops like Frederick's of Hollywood, located "alongside feathered boas and provocative pirate costumes". was dominated by pragmatic items from Fruit of the Loom, Hanes, and Jockey, often sold in packs of three at department stores, while lingerie was reserved for special occasions such as one's honeymoon. Īt the time when the Raymonds founded Victoria's Secret, the undergarments market in the U.S. Newsweek reported Roy Raymond stating: "When I tried to buy lingerie for my wife, I was faced with racks of terry-cloth robes and ugly floral-print nylon nightgowns, and I always had the feeling the department store saleswomen thought I was an unwelcome intruder." Raymond reportedly spent the next eight years studying the lingerie market. Years earlier, Raymond was embarrassed when purchasing lingerie for his wife at a department store. The first store was opened in the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California. Victoria's Secret was founded by Roy Raymond, and his wife, Gaye Raymond, on June 12, 1977. As of May 2020, with over 1,070 stores, Victoria's Secret remained the largest lingerie retailer in the United States. The brand struggled to maintain its market position following criticism and controversy over the unsavory behavior and business practices of corporate leadership under Wexner and Ed Razek. The company canceled the circulation of their catalog in 2016. īy 2016, Victoria's Secret's market share began to decline due to competition from other brands that embraced a wider range of sizes and a growing consumer preference for athleisure. Starting in 2008, Victoria's Secret expanded internationally, with retail outlets within international airports, franchises in major cities overseas, and in company-owned stores throughout Canada and the UK. In 2002 Victoria's Secret announced the launch of PINK, a brand that was aimed to appeal to teenagers. The 1990s saw the company's further expansion throughout shopping malls along with the introduction of the 'miracle bra', the new brand Body by Victoria, and the development of a line of fragrances and cosmetics. įrom 1995 through 2018, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was a major part of the brand's image featuring an annual runway spectacle of models promoted by the company as fantasy Angels. Wexner rapidly expanded into American shopping malls, growing the company into 350 stores nationally with sales of $1 billion by the early 1990s when Victoria's Secret became the largest lingerie retailer in the United States. Founded in 1977 by Roy and Gaye Raymond, the company's five lingerie stores were sold to Les Wexner in 1982. Victoria's Secret is an American lingerie, clothing, and beauty retailer. |
